Migration from Enterprise to Community

magento-enterprise_community

Migrating the Magento is a complex process and requires thorough technical & Magento Architectural knowledge and experience. Even Magento EE has the base of CE and has almost same features except customer segmentation and automated admin processes. However, the main known issue of migrating from Magento Enterprise to Community is password hashing.

Before migrating we need to watch out below EE features:

  • Customer segments will go away.
  • Catalog events, private sales, Invitations etc. will go away.
  • CMS hierarchies are not supported in CE.
  • Banners are not supported in CE.
  • RMA – people always seem to forget about RMA (information will be resident in db).
  • Admin Logging information will be inaccessible (still resident in db).

We at GSquare, has downgrade experts and we can do Magento migrate quickly, securely and with minimum downtime.

The migrate is divided into four parts.

1. Analysis

2. Theme Migration

3. Database Migration

4. Fixing known issues

1. Analysis

Our Magento experts do a thorough analysis before migrating Enterprise version to Community.

  • List down any custom modifications/ changes that are there in the EE version and if they can be copy in the CE version.
  • List down all extensions installed and in use in EE and available in CE.
  • Clone EE website & Create a Staging environment where all migrate process will take place.

2. Theme Migration

We first check whether EE theme is backward compatible or not and then we decide the approach to migrate the theme.

  • Copy the enterprise edition template to community edition.
  • Copy enterprise edition skin(CSS) to community edition.
  • Assign new theme to Magento Front end store.
  • Integrate local code in template.

3. Database Migration

It is recommended to drop any tables from the db prefixed with enterprise.

  • Export product data to CSV format.
  • Create products attribute set, attribute groups and attributes as per enterprise edition.
  • Assign images to products, put images into /media/import folder and change images path in csv relative to /media/import folder.
  • Import the product data from CSV file.

4. Fixing known issues

  • Fix form validation methods.
  • Manage customer and product data after imported from enterprise version to the community version.
  • Manage URL redirect.
  • Index management is manual in the community version.
  • Use good Full Page Cache extension in CE.
